Igniting Inspiration: Dr. Zhang Junqiao's Lecture Tour Kicks Off with First Stop Outside Campus

The Zhang Junqiao Deeds Promotion Group launched its first off-campus lecture at Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, initiating a series that encourages public admiration for exemplary figures while advancing the study of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

This lecture event was jointly sponsored by the publicity department of the Shandong provincial committee and the Shandong provincial health commission. It was co-organized by the publicity department of the Weifang municipal committee, Shandong Second Medical University, and Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The activity was attended by Mr. Sun Wenli, vice minister of the provincial publicity department, Mr. Li Ming, member of the party leadership group and deputy director of the provincial health commission, deputy director of the provincial administration of traditional Chinese medicine, Mr. Zhang Lixiang, party secretary of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Mr. Li Kejian, president of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Mr. Xu Jie, deputy party secretary of Shandong Second Medical University, Mr. Liu Yunbo, vice minister of the Weifang municipal publicity department.

At the lecture, five individuals delivered speeches from different perspectives, recounting comrade Zhang Junqiao's exemplary deeds and touching stories from his academic pursuits, professional work, and volunteer services. The speakers fully demonstrated his noble character and spirit of dedication. The speakers included: Mr. Jiang Zhonghua, who served as Zhang Junqiao's university counselor and currently holds the position of party branch secretary of the university library,Dr. Yao Fuwang, Zhang's university classmate and now associate chief physician of the anesthesiology department at the affiliated hospital, Ms. Yin Jinjiao, head nurse of the general practice department at the affiliated hospital, Mr. Wang Ankang, a museum docent from the Weifang Museum and Ms. Li Yining, a student from the School of Anesthesiology (grade 2023) who serves as captain of the Junqiao Heartbeat Action volunteer service team.

The documentary Life Above All traces Zhang Junqiao's life journey, weaving together the warmth of medical humanities with the conviction of life supremacy to unfold a moving testament to how the doctor spent his 38 years interpreting revering life and boundless compassion. The stage dialogue A Heartfelt Farewell delivers a soul-stirring goodbye through an imagined conversation across time, celebrating a physician's compassion that transcends life and death while provoking deep reflection on the value and meaning of existence. Poetry recitation Bridge of Life employs rich imagery of bridges—symbolizing public service, responsibility, rescue, and friendship—to portray Dr. Zhang Junqiao's legacy that crosses national borders, life-and-death boundaries, and professional limits. The original music video Zhang Junqiao: A Life Dedicated to Saving Others pays profound tribute to his lofty belief and dedication to a life dedicated to saving others, moving every audience member present.

The event was attended by responsible officials from the provincial publicity department, provincial health commission, Weifang municipal publicity department, Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Shandong Second Medical University, along with nearly 1,000 faculty and student representatives from Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine who were present at the venue.

Prior to the lecture, the Junqiao Heartbeat Action volunteer team organized a dedicated first-aid training session outside the venue to enhance emergency response awareness among faculty and students. The training focused on two critical lifesaving skills—cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) operation—adopting a theoretical explanation + live demonstration approach. This interactive format allowed participating teachers and students to gain hands-on practice, effectively improving their competence in both self-rescue and mutual aid during emergencies.

The lecture resonated strongly among faculty and students at Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Wu Xiangyuan, a teacher from the school of Marxism, remarked: Comrade Zhang Junqiao vividly embodied the concept of 'medical benevolence' in the new era. As an ideological and political education instructor, I saw in him the noble character of integrating knowledge with action and wholeheartedly serving society. His life is a living testament to the people-centered philosophy, inspiring young students not only to excel academically but also to cultivate a profound sense of social responsibility and commitment to serving the people. Qu Xingyu, a grade 2025 student from the school of acupuncture and tuina, who attended the lecture in a wheelchair due to an accidental injury, shared: Dr. Zhang Junqiao is my role model. When I heard the lecture team was coming to our university, I signed up immediately. The lecture deepened my understanding of his noble spirit and outstanding qualities, serving as a spiritual baptism for me. He is truly an inspiration for us medical students. Chen Jiayu, a grade 2025 student from the school of health sciences, added: Teacher Zhang Junqiao selflessly helped others, using his actions to interpret responsibility and great love. This event allowed more people to learn about his remarkable contributions and inspired me to follow his example by dedicating myself to safeguarding people's health.

It is reported that the Zhang Junqiao deeds promotion group will tour various cities and universities across the province to continue and expand the learning and promotion of comrade Zhang Junqiao's exemplary deeds, leveraging the power of role models to nurture social values and unite spiritual strength.
